Final Fantasy fans have been clamoring for Final Fantasy remasters for the better part of a decade, and Square Enix has recently been giving these fans plenty to cheer about.
Final Fantasy remasters have been announced one after another, and these remasters have have been relatively well received by veterans of the series and new comers alike. With veterans being able to better appreciate the games with improved graphics, and better accessibility for new comers.
The remaster of Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age has however, put Square into an awkward situation, increasing the possibility of a Final Fantasy 8 remake, game director Takashi Katano said in an interview with the International Business Times.
According to Katano, Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age is the last remaster option, was originally launched on the PS2. While Square Enix has released updated versions of past Final Fantasy games on services like Steam, Katano has suggested that Square Enix would not be able to remaster PlayStation 1 classics without sacrificing their quality standards saying, “You look at the other titles in the series and technologically anything before the PS2 era is going to be difficult to do a modern remaster of to a suitable level of quality…that means a [future game] is more likely to be a remake.”
The interview seemed to hint at additional remakes, and with Final Fantasy’s 30th anniversary celebrations in full swing, Square Enix might consider additional remakes.
Katano’s comments seem to confirm a theory fans have held since the beginning of Final Fantasy’s 30th anniversary. Some industry insiders seem to believe that a collection of Final Fantasy games would be remastered and released as a set to celebrate the franchise’s history.

I’m ok when they remake Final Fantasy VIII. It’s one of the most underrated FF games to date.
8 is romantic is what my friends say. My friend and my lil bro love that episode. Haven’t have the chance to play 8 much since I never able to have the console before.
I like 7 too since it quite good.
Yep, it is a romantic RPG game. Only we get to use Bahamut to add the flavour. Lol. But, the soundtrack is really good, though.
Ah. I love the soundtrack too. I love all FF soundtrack too. Lmao
I liked FF8 also….finished it on my ps1 last time…..with all the side quests done…haha
I like FF9… a remake of that would be great.
