One of the amazing illustrators who came to Creators Super Fest is Okita Kung from Thailand. This great illustrator has drawn so many online game characters he doesn’t even know which one is his favorite. You can check his works from the link at the end of the article!

Q: You’ve created many Japanese mobile game character designs. Which one is your favorite?

A: Yes, since basically I created many mobile characters, but some of them are owned by their respective companies. So I can’t claim them, but I can claim some of the characters from my game on DMM where I was credited for the art. Since I created too many characters, I can’t really remember them all.

Q: Do you play the said games as well?

A: Yes, I did play the game, but just barely and I don’t play too deep. But I do play Granblue Fantasy and I’ve been playing the game for 3 years now.

Q: Could you tell us where do you think you’ll become in the next 5 years? And how that would impact your art style?

A: I didn’t have any set goal in the next 5 years, but I like to draw and if it will affect my style, I’ll keep doing my art and I’ll keep on getting better every time.

Q: I see you like to draw girl characters. Is there any favorite characters amongst them?

A: Usually it always depends on what I like at the moment, but for now I like Scathach from Fate/Grand Order. I just started recently, but since the beginning I really like the girl with the Lance, so when the drop rate increased this new year, I immediately played the game.

Q: And did you get the Scathach?

A: *Laughs* Yes, I got it.

Q: What inspire you to draw?

A: I got inspired by Ken Akamatsu, creator of Love Hina. From that point on, I always try to draw continuously, practicing and keep on doing what I like.

Q: Do you have any suggestion that could help budding illustrator to grow?

A: Keep practicing, keep drawing, don’t be afraid to make mistakes and always try to learn new things. Find something that can inspire you, such as your favorite style or artist.

Q: So you said that you like to play Granblue Fantasy, F/GO, and Kantai Collection. Which one is your favorite game?

A: Granblue.

Q: Any advice to the Granblue newbie?

A: So start with one elemental only, and once you got strong on those element, then you can move on to the other element. Because for me, even until now I haven’t reach the end game yet and not even one of my teams got to its peak potential.

Q: What is your favorite equipment and why did you choose it?

A: Wacom Intuos 3.

Q: What makes it differ from the other equipment?

A: This one is from the first time I started drawing. It was from the first time I started digital art 7 years ago. I am still working with that until today because I have to be here and use my own equipment. I have to borrow my manager’s laptop but they don’t have the driver anymore. I already bought the new Wacom (Cintiq) but I still use this one.

So for the new artist, equipment is never a problem!

That’s the end of our interview with the illustrator, closed with a very powerful message for new illustrators. If you’re still unsure if you don’t have a Cintiq but your drawing is stagnant, look at his works through the links below. Imagine how he is using a 7 years old tablet to draw them.

Oh, Okita Kung is also a dirt lord just like me and Nugrahadi.
