Many were expecting the Pokémon franchise would be making its debut on the Switch, with a mainline game. However, in a Pokémon Direct earlier this week, Nintendo announced that an updated version of the mainline Sun and Moon entries to the franchise would be released on the 3DS instead.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will feature an alternate storyline with new Alohlan creatures and will be available from the 17th of November.

This should come as no surprise to many as developers Game Freak have previously stated that they “believe that the Pokémon is best on the handheld”.

The Pokemon series, however, will be making it’s debut on the Switch later this year with the release of Pokkén Tournament DX. This is game serves as an iteration to the original Pokkén tournament game which was available at arcades, and on the Wii U.
