Animation Studio Artland — best known for their work on the 2005-2006 series Mushishi, the 2006-2010 series Katekyou Hitman Reborn!, and most recently 2017’s The Seven Deadly Sins, has filed for bankruptcy. The filing was publicised by Japanese financial information provider Teikoku Databank (in Japanese language only).
Originally established as Artland Inc. in 1978, the company has worked on shows such as Super Dimension Fortress Macross, The Legend of Galactic Heroes, Gunslinger Girl, and Tantei Opera Milky Holmes. In early 2016, the Japanese arm of an unnamed Chinese animation company was trying to acquire a 51% controlling stake in Artland, however the deal fell through. By end end of December 2016, Artland had over JPY 298M in debt.
