Anime legend, Leiji Matsumoto, will be having some of his classic works come together in a special crossover movie! During the Japan Expo event in Paris, France, the Gainax booth revealed the heroes of Leiji Matsumoto’s franchises getting together for a crossover film trilogy titled “The Zero Century – Emeraldas”.

The new visual features Emeraldas from Queen Emeraldas, Maetel from Galaxy Express 999, and of course, Harlock from Captain Harlock. While Gainax is mainly producing the animation, they will also be working with Production GoodBook. They are planning to release the anime together sometime in 2020.

Gainax co-founder Hiroyuki Yamaga will be directing the trilogy, with some very big-name staff members. This includes Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, who is of course the original Neon Genesis Evangelion character designer. Another big name is Katsumi Itabashi, the legendary mecha designer behind Leiji Matsumoto Classics such as Galaxy Express 999 and Galaxy Railways. Toshihisa Kaiya, who worked on World Trigger, will also work on the anime as animation director.

They will release the trilogy as tribute for Leiji Matsumoto. So far, they still haven’t revealed any further information about it. But since the anime will be premiering in 2020, expect them to reveal more in the future.
