Several former Ghibli employees banded together to form Studio Ponoc. Their first film since leaving Ghibli is Mary and the Witch’s Flower, with Hiromasa Yonebayashi directing it. Yonebashi previously directed When Marnie Was There, as Well as The Magical World of Arrietty. And it seems that the rest of the world will also get to enjoy the director’s first post-Ghibli film.
The staff revealed that the film will have screenings in about 155 countries and territories worldwide. Oricon also noted  that several distribution companies have sent offers to distribute the film. These include USA, UK,  France, Australia, China, South Korea, South America, the Middle East, and even Africa. Oricon also noted that some “Big Name” actors will be involved in the film’s English dub.
Looks like that “Worked at Studio Ghibli” thing in their resume helped a lot. So far, no word if this includes the Southeast Asian region. The staff or the distribution companies will release more details about which countries this film will hit.
Based on Mary Stewart’s book The Little Broomstick, Studio Ponoc really went all out for the film. They even sent people to scout locations in Shropshire, England, the book’s setting. The film already premiered in Japan last weekend where it made its Oricon box office charts debut at #2.
