Youkai Apartment no Yuuga na Nichijou (“Elegant Yokai Apartment Life”) has just started airing in Japan, but it has already started making waves not because of its animation and storyline, but because of its hilarious (and expensive!) casting choices.

If you’ve been lucky enough to catch the initial broadcast in Japan, allow us to direct your attention to this scene in the anime. As you can see, three cute talking birds are raising a racket first thing in the morning, disrupting lead character Inaba Yushu’s morning routine.

But wait, there’s something really odd about those three birds. And if you know your male seiyuu then yes — you’ve guessed it: the three birds were voiced by legendary seiyuu Tomokazu Sugita as Bird 1, Takehito Koyasu as Bird 2, and Toshiyuki Morikawa as Bird 3!

さて、鳥1・2・3は誰でしょう?

We’re pretty sure the budget for sound and dubbing was busted just to cast those three annoying chirpers! Check out the official website of Youkai Apartment no Yuuga na Nichijou for more information. Chu–nchuchuchungachun♪
I didn’t know anything about the seiyuu. To me, they look like a Bob Marley gag.
Rise up this mornin’
Smiled with the risin’ sun
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin’ sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true
Saying’, this is my message to you
Singing’ don’t worry ’bout a thing
‘Cause every little thing gonna be alright
Singing’ don’t worry ’bout a thing
‘Cause every little thing gonna be alright
etc.
