Every year, Evangeluion director, Hideaki Anno and his wife, mangaka Moyocco Anno, contribute their artworks during the Bonbori Matsuri. They would usually do artworks for the festival’s lanterns along Kamakura’s Tsurugaoka Hachiman-guu shrine. For Anno, he usually draws about whatever he’s doing this year for the lantern art. For this year, he drew a brand new Unit 02!

This is further proof that Anno is definitely doing something about the new Rebuild of Evangelion film. Hey, it even has the EVANGELION: 3.0 + 1.0 logo! Shrine-goers can find Hideaki Anno’s lantern art, along with his wife, Moyocco’s, along the road and stairs.

As for Hideaki’s artwork itself, it seems to be a new form for Unit 02, as many fans have pointed out:

Previously, Anno also talked about his voice acting work for Hayao Miyazaki’s the Wind Rises in 2013’s version. As for 2015, He also talked about his role as the director of Shin Godzilla.

Unsurprisingly, the lantern arts from both Annos have become quite an attraction for the festival itself. Well, they are Hideaki and Moyocco Anno of course!
