JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable Chapter I finally premiered in Japan last weekend. However, it had a bit of a rough start, making its debut at #5 in Japan’s weekend box office. The film opened last 4th August across 355 theaters, but that wasn’t enough to propel it to the top.

The film, which came in with so much hype, only earned 166 million yen on 117,000 admissions last weekend. This may be a huge disappointment for the film’s producers, who are banking on the popularity of Araki’s manga to deliver.  Kamen Rider Ex-Aid the Movie: True Ending beat Jojo in the box office, as both films made their debut. The Kamen Rider film took 250 million yen on 200,000 admissions, as it opened on 318 screens. Transformers: Last Knight, also debuted that same weekend, and it also beat out Jojo at #3.

For the box office, the film fell to #1-ranked Despicable Me 3, as well as #2-ranked Kamen Rider Ex-Aid the Movie: True Ending. #3-ranked Transformers: The Last Knight and #4-ranked Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai also beat out Jojo. Meanwhile, Pokemon I Choose You (#6), Gintama (#8), and Mary and The Witch’s Flower (#10) are still hanging on the Top 10.
