Remember when Studio Ghibli posted about needing more hands to work on Hayao Miyazaki’s new film? Well, it seems that a lot of people noticed. Ghibli’s own “Nonaka-kun Hatsu Ghibli Dayori” blog revealed that the studio got more applicants than ever before. And not only that, they also got even more foreign applicants than ever before.

I guess the chance to work with the legend himself was too good to pass up, huh? The blog also mentioned that there were so many applicants that they had to pull people from production and the office to help in screening them.

As of 10th August, the studio has now wrapped up initial screenings. The ones who got through will now return in September to take a practical exam. They will then begin their 6-month training in October, before officially joining the Ghibli team. And when they finish their training, they will now work under one of the greatest animation directors in the world.

Back in May, they began hiring for In-between Animators, as well as Background Artists, for what seems to be Hayao Miyazaki’s final film. Those successful in getting the job will work at the Studio Ghibli headquarters in Koganei, Tokyo. They will get a 3-year contract, and will have to start working in Tokyo by 1st October. Their monthly salary is 200,000 yen, which many pointed out is a bit low. However, the website also said that they’ll get bonuses twice a year. They have to expect rigorous working hours between 10 am – 7 pm though, and they also have to expect overtime work.
