Speaking of anisong — check out the 2017 edition of I Love Anisong, with a stellar line up of artistes, including the bright and bubbly young songstress, Konomi Suzuki!

Konomi Suzuki is a young veteran on the anisong scene, who has sung hit songs for titles such as No-Game, No-Life and RE:Zero – Starting Life in Another World -. This talented singer is highly in demand for such prestigious events as Animelo Summer Live, so it’s a huge honor that she can take some time off to answer a few questions from WOW Japan.

Will this be your first time in Indonesia? What is your image of the country?

This will be my first time in Indonesia. I have this image that Indonesia has a lot of delicious fruit. I have never eaten mango and mangosteen, and I have heard that rambutan is delicious, so I would like to give it a try.

How did you get your start as a singer?

I have always wanted to be a singer since I was a child. When I was 14 years old I saw “Macross F”, and began to love animation and anisong. I have wanted to become an anisong singer after that. The following year, I won the 5th All Japan Anison Grand Prix, and made my debut shortly after that. I am so happy that my dream has come true, although I couldn’t quite believe it at first. But when my family and friends started congratulating me, and I saw my CDs lined up in shops, that’s when it really hit me it was all real.

Who is your biggest musical inspiration and why?

I was shocked but in a good way by May’n’s singing voice, and since my goal was to become an anisong singer, my inspiration has been May’n. Her voice is very powerful, but also very delicate, and that’s the biggest attraction for me. When I’m at home, I used to practice by copying her singing and her performance, and I think it influences my singing voice until now. I want to become like May’n, someone whose mere presence makes people’s dreams come to life.

Tell us something interesting about yourself – for example, when you are sad how do you cheer yourself up? What is your favourite activity with friends? Do you have a special skill not everyone knows you have?

If I am not feeling very cheerful, I am not the sort of person who talks to other people. I will just lock myself away and have a good cry until I am feeling better. After a good cry, there’s a feeling of toxins flowing out of your body and you feel refreshed afterward.

When I hang out with my friends, it’s usually an all-girls get-together. We get along very well and sing and dance a lot. I don’t want to brag about it, but I actually tap dance. I have been learning how to tapdance for 8 years and like to dance when I am by myself.

I have been looking forward to this trip to Indonesia very much. I also love animation and anisong, so I will continue singing it with all my heart — to best show off its charm. One day, I hope to do a solo concert in Indonesia! I will try my best for that, so thank you for your support.
