Possible new company for Eagle Jump’s Yagami Kou [SPOILER]

It was revealed in a recent episode of New Game!, that Eagle Jump would be losing one of its stalwarts. Yagami Kou, a former Art Director at the studio is set to leave the company to pursue opportunities at French company.

While it is always sad to see one of the main characters, leave a show, it is also bittersweet as she’ll be there to help make a game and to gain some useful experience.

Here’s a list of possible destinations for the series’ resident character design guru ranked from least to most likely.

Quantic Dream

Better known for games like Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and the upcoming Detroit: Become Human, Quantic Dream specializes in story-heavy games.

Memorable characters play a huge role in making a story unforgettable. While Quantic Dream has done well making captivating interactive stories, I found many of the playable characters rather forgettable, with only a handful of them making a huge impression on me. Perhaps things will change with the release of Detroit: Become Human, but for someone of Kou’s abilities, this might not be the best move for her at the moment.

Arkane Studios

While the studio may not be familiar to some, Arkane studios have worked on masterpieces like the Dishonored series and Prey.

With memorable characters and a definitive art style, Kou could broaden her horizons considerably working at the studio.

DontNod

Perhaps my favourite developer on the list, DontNod were the brains behind the critically acclaimed game, Life is Strange.

Not only were the stories masterfully written in Life in Strange, and Life is Strange: Before the Storm, the main characters were relatable, allowing players to better empathize with them. Such an environment might allow Kou to better hone her skills and add masterpieces to her portfolio.

Ubisoft

The biggest name on this list, Ubisoft is a giant in the video game industry. With offices all over the world, the studio has developed and published some of the most popular games currently in the market.

However, while they are better known for popular series like Assassin’s Creed, Rayman, and Tom Clancy, a series which Umiko might enjoy. They have also created cult classics like Beyond Good and Evil, and Child of Light.

With her skill, she can easily slip into the studio’s art department. While the art in Ubisoft’s games is usually visually captivating, characters Jade from Beyond Good and Evil, and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s Evie and Jacob Frye are also memorable for their personalities.

While Kou is a specialist in art, she could also gain valuable experience in designing other aspects of the characters she would be working on.

With the hints dropped in during episode, Ubisoft seems to be the most likely destination for her. With such a major character set to look for broadening her horizon overseas, this could be the last we see of Yagami Kou.
