The Fullmetal Alchemist live-action film adaptation will be premiering this December, and it certainly has hype. Recently, its actress, Tsubasa Honda, who plays Winry Rockbell in the film, sat down with the anime’s Elric Brothers. Romi Park voiced Edward in the anime, and Rie Kugimiya voiced Alphonse. Together, the women three talked about the upcoming film.

Honda admitted she re-read the manga before she began filming. She admitted that it made her think about enjoying the manga as a kid, and she certainly also enjoyed it as an adult. The actress then said that she found all the characters are fascinating, even the antagonists, and that’s what she loves about them.

As for Romi Park, the veteran seiyuu said she’s happy that Fullmetal Alchemist got its live-action adaptation. She also said that when she heard Fumihiko Sori is directing, she was surprised. She then admitted that adapting the manga into an anime would be difficult. However, when she saw the trailer, Park thought that it was really good. She then said that they should keep at it with this depiction of Hiromu Arakawa’s world.

The Queen of Tsundere herself, Rie Kugimiya, also showered praises on the upcoming film. She admitted that she also wondered how they would adapt the series, but also changed her mind when she saw the trailer. She also said that it makes her feel nostalgic, and this includes the train scene because it feels much like the anime.

The film will premiere on 1st December, and will also star:

  • Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell
  • Dean Fujioka as Roy Mustang
  • Ryuuta Satou as Captain Maes Hughes
  • Yo Oizumi as Major Shou Tucker
  • Yasuko Matsuyuki as Lust
  • Kanata Hongou as Envy
  • Shinji Uchiyama as Gluttony
  • Misako Renbutsu as Riza Hawkeye
  • Natsuki Harada as Gracia Hughes
  • Jun Kunimura as Doctor Marco
  • Fumiyo Kohinata as General Hakuro
  • Natsuna as Maria Ross
  • Kenjiro Ishimaru as Father Cornello

In an earlier interview, Director Fumihiko Sori revealed that unlike live-action film adaptations of popular manga titles like Rurouni Kenshin, Attack on Titan, and Chihayafuru, they will be telling the story of the Elric brothers in only one stand-alone film. This movie also promises to stay loyal to the source, so one might wonder how they will fit all of that story material in one feature-length film.
