An exciting new musical that blends Japanese tradition and culture entitled “FANTASIA –EPISODE 1 PRINCESS KAGUYA-“, featuring one of the oldest folk tales from Japan known as “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter”, has officially announced that the role of Princess Kaguya will be played by none other than Asia’s beloved songstress May’n!

May’n is a world-famous Japanese singer who has toured overseas over five times — her latest international tour just recently wrapped up this 2017. She has had over seventy performances worldwide, and has served as Japan’s premiere representative in over eight musical festivals across six countries. She has headlined gigs in San Francisco, Los Angeles, France, Germany, Korea, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.

As May’n faces a new challenge in her performing career, stunning cast photos of her in a tradition twelve-piece Japanese kimono have been released!

At the Fantasia press conference, May’n said, “I am excited about what kind of event it will be and I will do my best to play Princess Kaguya!”. Director Ryou Oguri also stated with confidence, “This is a fresh concept in Japan, and I will do my best with this new challenge.”.

The musical festival “FANTASIA – EPISODE 1 PRINCESS KAGUYA -” — happening on the 18th of November 2017 at the Makuhari Messe, fuses Japanese music, fashion, and technology in a showcase of “Japanese Beauty” to be shared with the world.

The maiden event culminates with an enactment of one of the oldest Japanese folk tales, “The Bamboo Cutter’s Tale”. Over a hundred other stories play out simultaneously, in 20 mysterious experience zones laid out in a labyrinth, where the audience can experience Japanese culture firsthand. To top it off, enjoy fantastic stage performances by BASEMENT JAXX, NERVO, and other world-class DJs and musical acts.

“FANTASIA – EPISODE 1 PRINCESS KAGUYA -” is directed by Mr. Ryou Oguri — who was in charge of Cirque du Soleil ‘s first performance in Japan, and stars beloved Asian songstress May’n as the Princess Kaguya. Other performers include BASEMENT JAXX, Bassjackers, DADA LIFE, NERVO, Thomas Jack, banvox, and ALISA UENO.

About May’n

May’n is a singer/songwriter who plays in a wide range of genres, including pop, dance, R&B, and rock. She first made waves in 2003 as a finalist of the 28th HoriPro Talent Scout Caravan “Love Music Audition”, and subsequently made her major debut in 2005.

Her big break came in 2008, when she sang the opening and ending themes of the TV anime series Macross Frontier. The soundtrack album that she was part of reached #2 of the Oricon charts — the Japanese equivalent of the Billboards. Since then she has sung theme songs for other anime serices, drama shows, and theatrical films.

In 2010, as a singer under the agency HoriPro and for the first time in 30 years since fellow Horipro artiste Miki Yamaguchi, May’n performed at the Nippon Budoukan. Tickets to the highly anticipated event sold out on the same day of its release. Besides the Nippon Budoukan and and the Yokohama Arena, she performed in five other venues in Japan, as well as launched her worldwide tour. May’n has performed more than 70 times in overseas music events, at over eight venues in more than six countries.

She has headlined gigs in San Francisco, Los Angeles, France, Germany, Korea, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. Her latest international tour just recently wrapped up this 2017, and she will be releasing a new album on 18th October 2017.

About Ryou Oguri

Born in 1976, Ryo Oguri moved to the United States in 1995 to pursue his dreams of becoming a director. In 2001 he returned to Japan to perform onstage under the direction of Yukio Ninagawa, as well as in films with Steven Seagal.

In 2006 he retired from his acting career to focus on production work in the entertainment industries both in Japan and overseas. In 2007, he became the director of NAC, an event production company.

In 2008 he was responsible for the Japanese staff of the entertainment group “Cirque du Soleil” — initially founded in Quebec, Canada. Currently, he is continues to widen his sphere of influence regardless of genre such as theater, stage, and MMA.

BASEMENT JAXX, Bassjackers, DADA LIFE, NERVO, Thomas Jack, banvox, ALISA UENO have been officially announced as part of the line-up for the event at Makuhari Messe on 18th November 2017 (Saturday).

BASEMENT JAXX is a popular DJ from London in the UK, and recipient of the Brit Awards. Bassjackers have appeared at three of the world’s biggest music festivals, and have captivated audiences all over the world. DADA LIFE is a pair from Stockholm, Sweden which boasts overwhelming popularity for their comical live performances.

NERVO — who have appeared in FANTASIA – EPISODE 0 – are a famous sister act in the EDM world. The enormous energy they bring with them leads to their success in the world stage. Thomas Jack is an Australian D and the father of tropical disco! His uses various instruments and creates a soothing sound. He is popular all over the world and are sure to fascinate the audience of FANTASIA!

In addition, Japanese acts banvox and ALISA UENO are also taking part. banvox is a young DJ who has attracted the attention of acclaimed world-renowned DJs Avicii and David Guetta! ALISA UENO has performed with artistes such as RITA ORA, ICONA POP, STEVE AOKI and Charlie XCX.
