C3 AFA Singapore 2017 — the biggest Japanese pop culture event in South East Asia unites fans at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre from the 24th to the 26th of November 2017! For the first time ever, the enigmatic and charismatic Japanese vocal duo is performing outside of Japan — let’s make way for ClariS! Composed of member Clara and Karen, ClariS drops the veil of mystery to answer a few questions from WOW Japan!

How did you feel when you heard your voice on the radio for the first time?

Clara: Clara: I knew it was me, but it felt like it wasn’t me at the same time — it was very strange. I had the same dream-like feeling when I debuted so I was very happy. It was unbelievable!

Karen: Karen: It was a strange feeling — like hearing other people’s voice even though it was my voice ❤ However, if you listen to your own voice objectively, there are a lot of new discoveries to be made, and it’s quite fun!

Which of your songs do you think represents you best as an artiste?

Clara: I think it is “connect”. I think it’s the song that most people have heard, and it’s a tie-up song with “Puella Magi Madoka ☆ Magica”. It really matches the world view of animation and the world view of music, and it is becoming an important song to me personally.

Karen: I think that for 2017 it’s “Hitori goto”! I think that it is the song that symbolizes us most for 2017. It the first music video that shows our silhouettes, and shows us participating in events☺ Because it is very poppy and cute, it is my favorite song, and I want to sing it a lot ♪

How does it feel to perform outside of Japan for the very first time?

Clara: There are some things I will be doing for the first time, so I am quite nervous. But I am also very much looking forward to seeing everyone from overseas, who have supported us so far. I am very excited!! I am also happy that we can share our music and performances to people who do not know much about ClariS, so so we will try our best!!

Karen: I have always looked forward to performing overseas, so I’m really looking forward to this * Overseas people sometimes come to our solo lives, and we have received lots of messages and letters from them, so we are so happy to see you! I may not understand the language, but I wish I can convey my feelings with everyone through singing ❥

Your performances feature beautiful costumes and masks. How do you design your costumes?

Clara: I consider colors and designs according to song image and the characters we play. In addition, I try to choose a silhouette that looks beautiful when dancing!

Karen: For our solo lives, I think about the costumes according to direction and songs (´>///<｀) Since each of us has image colors, Clara and I also discuss with stylists ⋆̩⋆̩⋆̩

You decided to remove your masks for your Pacifico Yokohama concert. Do you think you will do it again soon?

Clara: Yes, I think. I felt closer to our fans than ever before. I also hope I can have even more fun with all our fans.

Karen: Yes! I felt a lot of happiness being able to see you all. I was truly, sincerely touched when I removed my mask, thinking that “I was able to share songs by your side.”
