A live-action TV drama will be adapting Tooru Naomura’s popular gambling manga, Kakegurui. Now, we finally get to see two of its lead actors in costume! First up is actress Minami Hamabe as the one and only Yumeko Jabami. She previously appeared in the live-action AnoHana as Menma, as well as the live-action Saki as Saki herself. She has a lot of “nice girl” roles in the past, and this makes fans wonder how she will act as the borderline psychotic Yumeko. Many see that she can get Yumeko’s “nice girl” side, but wonder how she will pull off “psycho Yumeko.” However, she did promise to dig deep in order to pull off that side of her character when she’s gambling.

Meanwhile, actor Takahiro Takasugi will play Ryouta Suzui, a student at the prestigious Hyakkaou Private Academy.

Tsutomu Hanabusa is directing the live-action TV series, which will debut in Japan on 14th January. It previously received an anime adaptation by MAPPA and Netflix last season. Here’s how Yen Press, which officially distributes the manga in English, describes the series:

Hyakkaou Private Academy. An institution for the privileged with a very peculiar curriculum. You see, when you’re the sons and daughters of the wealthiest of the wealthy, it’s not athletic prowess or book smarts that keep you ahead. It’s reading your opponent, the art of the deal. What better way to hone those skills than with a rigorous curriculum of gambling? At Hyakkaou Private Academy, the winners live like kings, and the losers are put through the wringer. But when Yumeko Jabami enrolls, she’s gonna teach these kids what a high roller really looks like!
