Ladies and gentlemen, Deadpool will also be playing Pikachu. According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool star, Ryan Reynolds, will star in a live-action Pokemon film. The film will be adapting the Pokemon spin-off game, Detective Pikachu, where Reynolds will voice Pikachu.

The report also said that Reynolds will co-star with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s Justice Smith, as well as Big Little Lies actress Kathryn Newton in the film. They also confirmed that Goosebumps director, Rob Letterman, is directing the film. Shooting will start early next year in London. Here’s how they describe the story:

The story is kicked into gear when Smith’s character’s father is kidnapped, forcing the teen to team up with Pikachu in order to find him. Newton is a sassy journalist who helps them on their quest.

The Hollywood Reporter also said that the film is motion-capture in nature. However, they also said that:

Many details of the project are being kept off the grid, including the casting, which has been underway under the radar by the usually secretive Legendary.

Universal Studios will be handling the film’s distribution outside of Japan, while TOHO will distribute it in Pokemon’s home country.
