Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One film promises to take viewers to a world of virtual reality, ala Sword Art Online. The film also teases a few pop culture references from classic films, video games, and anime. Yes, anime! The new features a few ones from Japan, and of course, that includes the legendary RX-78-2 Gundam.

Well, the old Grandpa RX-78-2 Gundam actually did another reference with its pose in the trailer. It actually did the Gundam ZZ’s signature pose, rather than its more iconic “Final Shot” pose. But then again, it has to be missing its head and an arm to use that pose…

The trailer also featured a few Japanese anime, such as Speed Racer and Akira. They also featured Japanese video game icons such as Ryu and Chun-Li from Street Fighter, as well as Western video game characters like Tracer from Overwatch. The Geebox Facebook page recently did  a breakdown of all the references from that trailer, so check it out:

And since this is from Warner Brothers, which makes the DC films, don’t expect much Marvel or Disney references. And because this is just the trailer, expect the film itself to have even more Japanese animation references. Legendary director, Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park, ET) will be directing the Hollywood film, which premieres next year.
