Yuki Suetsugu’s Chihayafuru is getting a third and final live-action film adaptation on 17th March. Titled Chihayafuru: Musubi, the film takes place two years after the first two films. And because of that gap, the staff have announced that Hulu Japan will show a 5-episode series that will bridge the second and third films. Titled Chihayafuru -Tsunagu-, the series will premiere on Hulu this 20th February.

And not only that, but Hulu will also stream a second movie tie-in as well. Titled Chihayafuru -Manabi-, this one will introduce the new members of the Mizusawa Karuta Club. This second Hulu tie-in will also premiere on 20th February.

The first film, Chihayafuru: Kami no Ku, premiered in Japan back in April 2016, while the second film, Shimo no Ku, premiered a month after. Meanwhile, the third and final film will be making its premiere this 17th March.

Director Noihiro Koizumi, who is also returning from the first two films, revealed that this film’s story takes place two years after the events of the second film. He said it will focus on the love triangle between Chihaya, Taichi, and Arata. He also added that the film will settle Chihaya and Shinobu Wakamiya’s rivalry once and for all. As for the film’s script, Koizumi has announced that Suetsugu-sensei herself has already approved of it.
