Pyeongchang, South Korea is currently hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics. And for the first time in 66 years, someone actually won two consecutive Olympic gold medals in men’s figure skating. That man is Yuzuru Hanyu, a mega-popular figure skater in Japan who has received idol-like popularity in the country. He’s also a huge Tokyo Ghoul fan, and to celebrate his victory, mangaka Sui Ishida gave his fan a treat. Ishida tweeted an illustration of the skater in his classic art style, and we’re sure Hanyu is happy to get such a tribute.

And not only that, but the Tokyo Ghoul fan and Olympic medalist also got to meet Ken Kaneki’s seiyuu, Natsuki Hanae. This is because he recently dropped by Natsuki Hanae and Rina Hidaka‘s “A&G Tribal Radio Edison” radio program to talk about his Olympic win. And it seems that even the great Yuzuru Hanyu cannot keep is inner-fanboy in check. Upon meeting Hanae, he called the seiyuu “Kaneki-kun” in a very excited voice. But poor Rina Hidaka, it seems that Hanyu can’t remember any of her characters once the interview started.

During the interview, the champion figure skater admitted he was relieved after his win at the Olympics. But then, the conversation turned back to his fanboying after Natsuki Hanae. It seems that meeting Natsuki Hanae made him more nervous than competing at the Olympics. And yes, Hanyu also admitted that he owns Tokyo Ghoul merchandise himself.

During the interview, Hanyu also revealed much of his other interests, and that includes gaming. He said that he plays Monster Hunter: World, and that he uses a Charge Blade for the game. He then ended the interview by calling out to Hanae by saying “Kaneki-kun”. In response to this, Hanae replied, “I’m Kaneki!”
