Many around the world consider Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano a legendary illustrator. Now, this video game art icon has teamed up with Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-nominated film, The Shape of Water. Specifically, he drew a special artwork for the film’s Japanese release.

For the illustration, Amano said he tried to re-imagine the creature’s original underwater home. As for the film itself, the artist admitted that he thought it was wonderful. He also said he likes the themes of the 60’s and 70’s United States, and added it reminded him of his time living in America.

The Guillermo del Toro film is getting much critical praise and it has also received a total of 13 Academy Award nominations. It follows the touching story of a mute woman and her relationship with a mysterious fish creature.
