The Nintendo Switch celebrated its 1st birthday over the weekend. A couple of days later, Nintendo announced a Nintendo Direct for the 8th of March just 2 days before the event itself. This would be Nintendo’s first full length Direct presentation of 2018. For the most part, there was little that took people by surprise, but there were a few announcements and reveals to get people hyped about the the games coming to  Nintendo’s suite of consoles.

Here are what we think are the top 5 announcements that came from the event.

Splatoon 2 DLC

Splatoon 2 will be receiving an expansion to its single player campaign in the summer. Dubbed Octo, it features an Octoling who unravels the mysteries of Inkopolis. I truly enjoyed Splatoon 2’s base single player campaign and will be looking forward to grabbing this expansion. The expansion will cost 19.99USD.

More Ports!

With Bayonetta 1 and 2, Darkest Dungeon, Super Meat Boy, and many more finding new life on the Nintendo Switch, and the Switch’s impressive sales numbers. It’s not surprising that publishers and devs are chomping at the bit to see their games on Nintendo’s hybrid console. Now we can add more excellent games to the list of ports, with Crash Bandicoot’s N’Sane Trilogy, Okami HD, Undertale, South Park: Fractured But Whole, and Little Nightmares Complete Edition seeing releases in 2018.

Praise the Sun

Dark Souls amiibo, are being released along side the remaster of Dark Souls.

Plenty Release Dates

As with most Nintendo Directs, we got confirmation on release dates for games set for release on Nintendo devices. First we have the 3DS releases of Detective Pikachu (March 23, with an accompanying amiibo), Warioware (August 3), Dillion’s Dead-Heat Breakers (May 24). Then we have the Switch releases, Kirby Dream Allies (March 16, with a free update arriving on March 28) Mario Tennis Aces (June 22), Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition (May 18), Octopath Traveler (July 13), Mario Tennis Aces (June 22), Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (July 13)

One More Thing

In a final blow that could make even Steve Jobs proud, Nintendo saved the best for last. Super Smash Bros. is coming to the Switch later this year. This time, the Inkling kids from Splatoon will join the mayhem. Fans have been asking for this since Splatoon found its feet, and now we’re getting it.

Conclusion

Nintendo is showering the Switch with a ton of love, and the 3DS is also not forgotten. With so many games announced for release up till Summer, we can be sure that there’ll be plenty for Switch fans to rejoice about when E3 rolls around in June.
