After the success of The Boy and the Beast, critically-acclaimed anime director, Mamoru Hosoda, returns with a new project. Titled Mirai of the Future, or Mirai no Mirai, the new film will take on the theme about siblings.  Now, we finally get a better look at the film, as Studio Chizu has revealed a brand new trailer. The video introduces us to Mirai and her brother, Kun-chan, both of whom serve as the film’s two leads.

As the official trailer reveals, Mamoru Hosoda’s highly-anticipated return will premiere in Japan on 20th July. The staff also revealed that the film will have a 100-minute run time. Here’s how Variety describes the anime’s story:

Mirai follows a 4-year old boy who is struggling to cope with the arrival of a little sister in the family, until things turn magical. A mysterious garden in the backyard of the boy’s home becomes a gateway allowing the child to travel back in time and encounter his mother as a little girl and his great-grandfather as a young man. These fantasy-filled adventures allow the child to change his perspective and help him become the big brother he was meant to be.

Studio Chizu will be animating the new film, and of course, Mamoru Hosoda is directing it. Hosoda also wrote the screenplay for the film as well. Hosoda’s previous works, Wolf Children and The Boy and the Beast, centered on motherhood and fatherhood respectively. This time, his latest work will center on the relationship between siblings.
