It looks like legendary anime director, Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor) is having a new anime film project. This time, he’s adapting Baku Yumemakura’s Chimera novels, and he’s also the one directing it. This would be the director’s first anime film since 2008’s The Sky Crawlers.

Yumemakura himself previously admitted that his novels are getting an anime adaptation, and it involves Mamoru Oshii. However, the author didn’t state what Oshii’s involvement will be. But now, according to Comic Natalie, the legendary director will indeed be at the helm of this new animated film. So far, they still haven’t revealed much details about the film yet, such as release date and cast.

The Chimera novel series first launched in 1982. It follows high school student, Kou Ootori, who’s having recurring nightmares about a beast eating him from the inside. And when he meets an elite student from his school, Reiichi Kuki, he finally awakens the power whithin him.
