Osamu Tezuka is without a doubt, one of the greatest mangaka of all time. With titles like Phoenix, Jungle Emperor Leo, Black Jack, and of course, Astro Boy, he has cemented his legacy. Now, MAPPA (Yuri on Ice) is planning to adapt one of his classic works into a new TV anime, and that is Dororo. They’re also teaming up with Twin Engine, Amazon Prime, and Tezuka Productions in order to make this all possible.

The story’s setting is during the Muromachi period, in the 1470’s after the Onin and Bunmei wars. It follows a man known as Hyakkimaru, who is missing 48 body parts, which 48 monsters stole. To exact his revenge, he takes a fake body and sets out to kill each and every one of the monsters and also take back his body parts.

The classic manga previously received a 26-episode black-and-white TV anime back in 1969. As for the source manga itself, Tezuka launhed it back in 1967, and has been circulating for over 50 years now.

So, what do you guys think of this Tezuka classic getting a more modern touch from Mappa?
