There are many of us that are huge mecha anime fans, particularly, the Gundam franchise. And many of us Gundam fans, as well as mecha fans in general, dream of piloting a giant robot of his/her own. Now, one Japanese engineer has fulfilled his Gundam dreams by building his own giant robot!
This new robot may be the biggest functioning robot yet, bigger than the Kuratas or the Megabots Mk-IV.Masaaki Nagumo, an engineer from Japan, created this 8.5 metre giant he calls the LW-Mononofu. He created this with Gunma-based farming machinery company, Sakakibara Kikai. It contains a cockpit with monitors and levers for the pilot to control the robot’s arms and legs.
However, don’t expect this robot to be fast like a Gundam F-91 or go Trans-Am like the Gundam Exia. Given today’s limited robotics technology, this can only go about 1Kph at best. But it does have an air bazooka which shoots sponge balls at around 140 kph though.
The farming equipment company also created other giant robots for a variety of purposes, from kids’ birthday parties to entertainment. Renting out one of their robots could also cost up to 100,000 yen per hour.
“As an anime-inspired robot that one can ride, I think this is the biggest in the world,” said Nagumo. However, Monofu may be a bit too big for its own good. It’s so big that it can’t leave the factory they built it in… unless they dismantle it first of course.
