Sometimes, following your dreams could take a long time. And for 78-year old Hifumi Katou, he finally gets his dream of debuting as a seiyuu. Katou is regarded as Japan’s oldest professional Shogi player, and many respect him in the Shogi world. However, because of being a professional player since the age of 14, he really didn’t fulfill his dream of becoming a seiyuu… until now. He will be voicing a super computer as he makes his debut for Layton Mystery Tanteisha: Katori no Nazotoki File.

However, he will only be working as a seiyuu part-time, as he already retired from professional shogi earlier. He also admitted that voicing the super computer is quite a challenge indeed. But he did say that the experience is exciting, and the director was very kind in instructing a newcomer like him. Previously, he said that being a seiyuu is just a dream for him, but now he’s happy that he realized it. Awwwwwwwww…

Katou also admitted that he’s a huge anime fan. His favorites include Anne of Green Gables, The Wonderful Adventures of Nils, and Meiken Jolie.
