It looks like Nobuhiro Watsuki’s Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc manga will be continuing. The news comes right after the mangaka paid a 200,000 yen fine after a Tokyo court found him guilty of child pornography. According to the official Jump SQ website, the manga will be resuming in 4th June 2018 inside the magazine’s pages.
Jump SQ also noted that “Watsuki is living a life of reflection and atonement”. He, along with Rurouni Kenshin publisher Shueisha, that continuing the manga would be best for fans. They revealed that doing so is a “matter of duty”.
Tokyo police arrested Watsuki last October, while the Tokyo Public Prosecutors Office filed a summary indictment against him. And then, the Tokyo Summary Court has found him guilty of his charges, and ordered him to pay a fine of 200,000 yen.
Apparently, he stored these child pornography DVDs as early as October. Also, in his deposition, Watsuki allegedly said that he likes “late elementary school girls and late middle school students”.
In Japan, the law considers child pornography to be a crime. In fact, the guilty can expect jail time of about a year, as well as a fine of about 1 million yen. This would certainly hurt Watsuki, who has been planning his return to writing a new series for Rurouni Kenshin. Shueisha suspended the manga following his charges.
