The seven-part Space Battleship Yamato 2202 anime film series continues with the fifth film, “Rengoku-hen” (Purgatory Chapter). And now, Bandai Visual has started streaming a new promotional video, which previews some of the action and intrigue. It also gives us a taste of the anime’s ED theme song, “Youranka” by Shino Arima and MayTree.

The 5th film premieres in Japan on 25 May 2018. It will take a look more at Aberdt Dessler’s backstory, as well as the continuing conflict between Earth and Gatlantis.

Set three years after the events of Space Battleship Yamato 2199, the film series follows the Yamato’s new voyage. However, the Earth is rapidly militarising, and a conflict with the advancing Empire of Gatlantis is inevitable. The film series will also be getting a new broadcast series starting autumn 2018.
