Japanese cable channel SkyPerfectTV! has formally announced that it will be airing a live action TV drama adaptation of “Galaxy Express 999”, with the official opening of its website. The two main protagonists, Maetel and Tetsuro Hoshino, will be played by Chiaki Kuriyama (Battle Royale, Kill Bill Vol 1)) and Ohshirou Maeda (Kiseki) respectively.
Galaxy Express 999 is a manga written and drawn by Leiji Matsumoto. It is set in a high-tech future in which trains are capbale of space travel and humans now have the ability to transfer their minds and memories into mechanical bodies. The original manga series has had many film and animated TV adaptations, as well as spin off manga series that either run parallel to the main story or retell it completely.
