Acclaimed anime director, Makoto Shinkai, certainly is no stranger to directing commercials. Now, he has directed a new TVCM for something that’s happening right here in Singapore. To be exact, it talks about the construction of the upcoming Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) for the Taisei Corp.

Taisei Corp is the company which is currently doing the constructions for the Marina Bay MRT section of the Thomson Line. They’re also the company which hired Shinkai to direct the CM. ComiX Wave Films, the same studio behind Makoto Shinkai’s hit film, your name, also produced the animation. It features a Japanese engineer named Ayano as she adjusts to life in Singapore while helping out in the project. The CM also features several iconic Singapore landmarks, most especially Marina Bay skyline.

The Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) is a joint line between the Thomson Line and the Eastern Region Line. This 43km TEL will add 31 new stations to the existing rail network, with 7 interchange stations, which will link to the East-West Line, North-South Line, North-East Line, Circle Line and the Downtown Line. Commuters can start enjoying the TEL in stages from 2019, but it might be finished as a whole by 2024.  It will cut through Singapore from north to south, thus making transportation much easier for commuters.
