I love cats — I have seventeen in total! All were stray kittens rescued off the streets. But most people — especially in space-strapped Japan, don’t have the same privilege keeping as many cats as they like in their tiny apartments, which is where businesses like cat cafes come in.

However, you can only spend so much time and money renting cats by the hour. So why not spend even better quality time with your temporary feline friend, by staying overnight at a cat ryokan?

As Japanese Twitter user @mituyasann discovers, there is a small inn in Hakone called “My Cat” that offers a number of furry friends to accompany you in your room, while you stay at the inn. The ryokan also doubles as a cat cafe during regular hours, as well as offers pet boarding services to locals when they go on holiday.

So if you ever find yourself in the holiday town of Hakone, and don’t mind playing servant to a clowder of cats, then give “My Cat” a try!
