High School road bike racing anime series “Yowamushi Pedal Glory Line” (adapted from the manga series “Yowamushi Pedal” by Wataru Watanabe) recently teamed up with Japanese Traditional Glass Craft Makers ‘Edo Kiriko Blown Glass Craft” to release three specially designs of glassware based on the colours and motifs of the three main competing finalist schools from the anime series.
The collaboration is the latest in the line of many from the “Meihin Zero-go” (銘品零号) collaborative project of having popular anime/games series tie-ups with traditional crafts – the main purpose of which is to roust interests and create awareness of the art of traditional craftsmanship amongst the younger generation; to keep the crafts and techniques passed down from generations before alive and going.

The above three designs are available for purchase but details on how and where fans may buy them are not yet disclosed.
Besides allowing fans the opportunity to purchase these beautifully crafted Edo Kiriko Blown Glass cups, fans may also immerse themselves in the unique experience of creating their own glassware in the special workshop that teaches how to make beautiful glassware using the traditional Kiriko blown-glass method passed down for generations since the Edo Period (1603 – 1868). The traditional art of “Edo Kiriko Glass” – sometimes also known as “Edo Glass” in short – is the craft of handmade blown-glass technique passed down since Japan’s Edo Period. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry designated this traditional craftsmanship of glass-making as part of “Tokyo’s Traditional Craft” in 2014, as it is a cultural heritage art form meant to be preserved in modern Japan.
