Gintama is set in the Edo Period… supposedly, as it follows a story where aliens took over Japan. But then again, its timeline doesn’t really matter because of all the 4th Wall breaking going on. And now, a new collaboration is giving the anime’s characters a make-over from a different samurai era. This time, they’re teaming up with Toei Kyoto Studio Park, and it features 11 new illustration featuring the lovable characters.

Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura as random Ashigaru (common Japanese foot soldiers, normally canon fodder)

Isao Kondo as Naoe Kanetsugu

Toushirou Hijikara as Date Masamune

Sougo Okita as Oda Nobunaga

Sagaru Yamazaki as a random ninja

Kotarou Katsura as Okuni Izumo

Tatsuma Sakamoto as Saint Francis Xavier

Shinsuke Takasagi as Sasaki Kojiro

Kamui as Musashi Miyamoto

It looks like the Shinsengumi are taking center stage for this collaboration, huh? While it may not be the same period, they’re still one of the most celebrated samurai in history.

They will hold the collaboration in the park from 21st July until 17th September. It will include stamp rallies, food and merchandise stalls, as well as other goodies.
