Japan Park Singapore 2018 (aka #JPSG) is an all-new event concept that aims to bring the best of all 47 prefectures of Japan, to six exciting experience zones right in the heart of Singapore. Slated for the 4th and 5th of August at the Suntec Convention Centre Halls 403 & 404, get ready to take in the WA-Shiok Gourmet Festa, the Discover Japan travel zone, the Lifestyle and Technology area, the Omakase Stage, the Kids Sport Challenge, and last but not least pop culture event CharaExpo Mini.

Japan Park Singapore organizer Mr. Haruhiko Miyano of Amuse Singapore opened the press conference by talking about the new concept. While a lot of Singaporeans have been to Japan, they very rarely explore outside of the main cities of Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. There is also a lot of information out there geared towards travelers, but they are mostly in the Japanese language. He aims to bridge the disconnect, and invite travelers to experience all 47 prefectures of Japan.

To get the hype machine going, Japan Park Singapore brought down some special guests for the exclusive press convention. First was professor and inventor Tomotaka Takahashi, who brought the supercute DIY robot “Robi” to life! Next up was voice actress Rimi Nishimoto, who voices the popular character Rimi Ushigome from the multi-million selling media franchise BanG Dream!

Tomotaka Takahashi is best known for creating humanoid robots with fluid motions and sleek designs. He brought one of his designs — the DIY robot Robi from Japanese kit maker Di Agostini, to demonstrate to fans the how new technologies like robots can encourage children to be the next Steve Jobs or Bill Gates.

Inspired in his boyhood by Osamu Tezuka’s Astroboy (Tetsuwan Atom), he believes that just like computers have become part of our daily lives, robots will soon aid us in our everyday activities. Learn more from this tech trailblazer at the Japan Park Singapore Lifestyle and Technology zone.

Next up is voice actress Rimi Nishimoto, who arrived in a very cute pink yukata reminiscent of her character Rimi Ushigome from Poppin’ Party. She very excitedly shared stories of the last time she was in Singapore for an event, such as shopping in Bugis and Somerset, as well as enjoying Singapore’s national dish of chicken rice.

Rimi also invited everyone to come see Poppin’ Party* perform at Japan Park Singapore on 5th August 2018 starting at 8PM (*unfortunately, due to prior commitments Ayaka Ohashi will not be able to join the band at JPSG). Check them out at the Omakase Stage!
