Sega’s iconic mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog, is getting is own Hollywood live-action film. And now, Deadline is reporting that Sonic’s own archnemesis, Robotnik, finally has an actor! And this time, his actor is none other than comedian Jim Carrey (The Mask, The Truman Show, Bruce Almighty).

Sources say that the actor is currently making a deal with Paramount Pictures to finalise the role. If this pushes through, Carrey will be joining the film’s previously-announced stars, James Marsden and Tika Sumpter. In the film, Sonic must stop the evil Robotnik from completing his plans for world domination.

Jeff Fowler will be directing this video game adaptation, with Neal Moritz, Mie Onishi and Tim Miller serving as producers. Paramount Pictures will then be distributing the film, which is based on Sega’s bestselling video game franchise.
