It’s been 13 long years since fans of the Kingdom hearts series have seen a mainline release for a Kingdom Hearts game. And fans, myself included, have feared their patience would be further tested by Square Enix. Earlier today, the publisher took everyone by surprise by announcing that the game would be released early next year.

While Kingdom Hearts 3 was rumored to have a 2018 release, Square Enix made it clear that the game would hit store shelves on the 29th of January 2019.

In a twitter post, franchise director Tetsuya Nomura said, “We’ve announced the release day for KINGDOM HEARTS III ahead of E3 at the KINGDOM HEARTS Orchestra -World Tour-. I’m sorry that we’re asking for a little more time than initially planned. Please look forward to other information, including a few trailers at E3. Thank you,”

With the game is playable at E3, we can expect to see a lot from the game at the world’s biggest gaming event.
