The staff of the live-action Gintama 2 film have been keeping details about it a secret for quite some time. However, they’ve now decided to reveal a lot of these secret details, and that includes the official title. It turns out that Gintama 2’s official title is Gintama 2: Okite wa Yaburu Tame ni Koso Aru. The film’s title means “The Law is Surely There to be Broken,” which is certainly very Gintama. The staff also unveiled several new character visuals, though they didn’t reveal who is playing who. However, we do know that there are a few familiar characters in there…

Aside from the new visuals and characters, the staff also revealed the film’s story. And as it turns out, it won’t just be following one arc from the manga, but two! According to staff, it will follow the “Shinsengumi Crisis” and the “Shogun Reception” arcs.

Masaki Suda and Kanna Hashimoto are reprising their roles as Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura respectively. Meanwhile, Shun Oguri is also coming back as the one and only Gintoki Sakata. Finally, Jiro Sato will also be returning from the first film, but this time in a different and unspecified role. Masami Nagasawa returns as Tae Shimura, while Masaki Okada also returns as Kotarou Katsura. However, they did not specify if Takayuki Yamada is returning in Gintama 2 as Elizabeth. The film will premiere in Japan on 17th August.
