The new “Yokai Watch” film — slated for release on 14th December 2018, has released its key visual as well as some key points regarding the story. Titled “Yokai Watch the Movie Forever Friends“, the film will be set the in halycon days of the 1960s, prior to the modern day events of the main Yokai Watch timeline.
The film’s plot will center around an orphan boy named Shin, and his yokai guardian Nekomata (nekomata are two-tailed cats famous in traditional Japanese folklore). Shin used to live alone with his mother, but when his mother passes away, he is left by himself — scared and lonely, until new friends come along to help him.
Yo-kai Watch is a multimedia franchise covering games, manga, anime, films, toys, and theme park experiences created by game company Level 5. During its peak in 2014 it outsold Pokemon games by nearly 30%, which was a tremendous effort considering that it was a younger franchise.
