Update (7 June 2018, 10:00 +8 GMT): The “Nidoume no Jinsei wo Isekai de” anime has been cancelled, and distribution of the light novels has been halted by its publisher.
“Nidoume no Jinsei wo Isekai de”, a Japanese light novel series written by MINE and illustrated by Kabocha, was slated to start the broadcast run of its anime adaptation in October 2018. However it looks like the production is in jeopardy, as racist statements made by author MINE — and the ensuing furor it caused, has led to the main voice cast leaving the production en masse!

“Nidoume no Jinsei wo Isekai de” is set in a fictional world that resembles WWII, so there were already concerns about the scenes set in the Sino-Japanese conflict. However, it was MINE posting racist opinions against Chinese and South Korean nationals on Twitter — calling them “monkeys” and “beasts”, that really stoked the fire. All controversial posts have since been erased, and an apology tweet was also posted.

As “Nidoume no Jinsei wo Isekai de” was self-published online, MINE has stated in his apology that he will be discontinuing the web novel. He also stated that he was speaking with his publisher to revise some of the controversial material in the light novel version. However, when Oricon contacted Hobby Japan, the publisher was unable to make a comment.
The official website of “Nidoume no Jinsei wo Isekai de” has blocked access from overseas IPS for confirmation, so the fate of the production remains unknown.
