Sunao Katabuchi’s In This Corner of the World anime film garnered much praise from fans and critics alike. It even won a few awards both in Japan and abroad. And now, it’s getting a new extended version which is titled “Kono Sekai no (Sara ni Ikustumono) Katasumi ni“. The film’s title means “In (Several More) Corners of This World”. The staff even revealed a new key visual for this extended version.

Director Sunao Katabuchi himself planned the title, and In This Corner of the World mangaka, Fumiyo Kouno, approved it himself. The new film’s concept will be adding more perspectives to the story in addition to Suzu’s to reflect the film’s new theme. It will also be adapting more scenes from Kouno’s manga.

These new scenes include Suzu crossing paths with Rin during the autumn of 1944, as well as the winter and spring of 1945. In fact, Rin will be featuring much more prominantly in the new version. It will also be adding a new scene which will focus on the Makurazaki Typhoon of September 1945.

Meanwhile, the film will also add a new song from kotringo titled “Kanashikute Yarikirenai” (It’s Sad and I Can’t Bear It). The staff even released a preview of this new song, which will serve as a new theme for the extended version:
