30 years has passed since Studio Ghibli’s classic animated film “My Neighbor Totoro” made its cinematic debut in 1988. It goes without saying that Studio Ghibli has lined up a series of celebratory activities and special goods to commemorate the occasion!
Other than the newly-designed commemorative visual and 30th Anniversary logo, there are officially a series of new goods lined up to be gradually released for sales over the months of July, August and September 2018. We take a look at some of the July releases!
First in the line-up of goods is this set of 18 individual plastic collectible figure of the Big Totoro captured in stop-motion action. Each figure retails at JPY 1,782 and if one buys all 18 in the set, they can re-enact one of the signature scenes from the animated film.
There is a similar stop-motion collection set of 10 plastic figures of the littlest Totoro, retailing individually at JPY 1,512 each. Watch the adorable promotional video here to see them in ‘action’!
Besides the two sets of stop-motion plastic collectible figures of Big and Little Totoro, other July goods releases also include: this huge special limited quantity 30th Anniversary Big Totoro plush toy (measuring 300mm x 320mm x 270mm in size) that retails at the price of JPY 8,610, as well as this special replicated cel-art print from Studio Ghibli for the avid fan and collector, retailing at the price of JPY 75,600.
These anniversary items may be purchased from the physical Studio Ghibli’s official merchandise retail chain stores “Donguri Republic”; or place orders via the official Donguri Republic Online Shop – customers residing outside of Japan may engage proxy forwarding services to handle the international shipping of their orders.
Besides the above items slated for public-sales release in the month of July 2018, fans may check out what other special commemorative goods Studio Ghibli have in store and lined up subsequently for sales for the months of August and September here.
