Mamoru Hosoda and Studio Chizu might be busy with the new Mirai of the Future film, but it looks like they have a new project in the works. And it’s not just any project, because it involves one of Hosoda’s greates films. That of course, is the Girl Who Leapt Through Time. This is because the studio just launched a new “Mirai de Matteru” websute, and it features the words “Girl Who Leapt Through Time”. It also has a countdown…

“Mirai de Matteru” means “Waiting in the Future”, and it certainly holds true for the mysterious website. We still don’t know what it’s gonna announce, but the countdown will end on 18th July at noontime, JST.

Hosoda’s original 2006 film is a loose sequel to Yasutaka Tsutsui’s 1965 novel The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. It features different characters, though it does also feature the novel’s main character as the protagonist’s aunt. The film won plenty of prizes in animation and received plenty of critical success both in Japan and abroad.
