Studio PONOC, the studio run by former Ghibli animators, is back with a new anime film! This time, they’re doing a 3-part film anthology titled “Modest Heroes” or Chiisana Eiyuu: Kani to Tamago to Toumei Ningen. And now, they have released the anime film’s very first PV, offering us the first look at this new work:

As the video reveals, the film opens in Japan on 24th August. It will also be the first part of their Ponoc Short Films Theatre anthology of animated short films. Mary and the Witch’s flower director Hiromasa Yonebayashi is directing the 15-minute fantasy adventure story, “Kanini & Kanino”. This will be Yonebayashi’s first original story, and it follows the adventure of two crab siblings.

Meanwhile, former Ghibli animation director Yoshiyuki Momose is directing “Life Ain’t Gonna Lose”. This story is a 15-minute “human drama based in a true story”. It follows the story of a mother and her child.

Finally, former Ghibli character designer, Akohiko Yamashita, is directing the 14-minute short, “Invisible”. The story follows the life of a lonely invisible man.

Based on the pedigrees of the three directors, the film certainly seems very interesting. And if Mary and the Witch’s Flower is any indication, we can expect that particular Ghibli-like style on play.
