We reported previously on the “Yowamushi Pedal” x Edo Kiriko Glass Craft collaboration on how ACG fandom may team up with tradition crafts and the end-result will be a creation of stunningly beautiful merchandise that no fans may be able to resist.

This round, the collaboration is between popular browser and mobile game “Touken Ranbu –Online–” and Asakusa Bunko -– the age-old brand well-known for their beautiful and stylish leather-crafts accessory items created using a combination of crafting high-grade white calf leather from the Himeji region, and hand-painting the motifs and designs using traditional Yuzen-dye methods.

Six of the characters from the popular game were selected and six beautiful, intricately-crafted leather smartphone cases were created in unique designs based on each character’s signature colour schemes and iconic motifs. Let’s take a closer look at the line-up!

Kasen Kanesada model with the poet-swordsman’s signature lilac hues and peony motifs.

Gokotai model with the iconic five tiger cubs always seen accompanying the tanto (lit. short sword/dagger) patterned upon a charming design of wisterias in bloom.

Monoyoshi Sadamune model in a sleek and chic mixture of white grey/black and pale pink lines and swirls said to be based on the actual decorative patterns on the sword’s hilt.

Iwatooshi model with brass but stylish line-motifs, in colours befitting the invincible naginata that had once belonged to the legendary monk Benkei.

Hotarumaru model with the signature fireflies patterns in light yellow-green hues that is signature of the legendary sword of Kumamoto’s Aso Shrine.

And lastly, Mikazuki Munechika model with classic blue and white swirls in the rich hues of the sword that is said to be one of the most beautiful historical artefacts ever forged in Japan, earning it the title of National Treasure, and which also happens to be the mascot character of “Touken Ranbu –Online–”.

All of the six models of leather smartphone cases have their designs engraved, crafted and hand-painted in the traditional Yuzen-dye technique. They also each come with their respective decorative strap with a metallic charm made in the image of each character’s sword crests.

These beautiful leather-craft smartphone cases are retailing at the price of JPY 21,384 (Japanese consumer taxes inclusive) each and may be purchased via the online shops of Village Vanguard or Premico.
