There is the sociological belief that when fans like a manga, anime or game series, it sticks with them for life. They may have first encountered with the series way back when they were younger and enjoyed it, and thus the magical bond between series and fan is born! Fast-forward to years later when these fans have grown up, are financially-capable yet have lesser time to spend on their fandoms because of responsibilities that accompany being a grown-up, but a little inert part of them still cling on to the fandoms they have loved when they were kids… and that’s when the wonderful genre of collaborative merchandise between popular ACG series and practical, usable accessories and merchandise comes in.
According to Comic Natalie, the latest in line of one such collaboration merchandise is between the popular fantasy-adventure series “One Piece” (by Eiichiro Oda) with the 400-year-old traditional art of leather-crafting known as ‘Inden’ – the craft of dyeing and printing patterned motifs onto the post-processed hides of goats or deer, then making these after-processed leather hides into accessory items like bags, wallets, pouches, etc.
The Roronoa Zoro Santouryu (lit. ‘three-sword style”) long-wallet will be created under the expert craftsmanship of masters from “Inden-ya”. The wallet’s base-colour will be a rich, deep-green – inspired by the swordsman’s image-colour –; and the patterned motifs imprinted on the leather will be a classy design featuring all three of Zoro’s inter-crossed katana(s) and their hilt-guard designs.
The inside of the long-wallet will feature 11 internal compartments that are practical and useful for keeping money, cards and any other important bills and documents close at-hand. There will also be a decorative strap with Zoro’s pirate-emblem engraved on the stylish gold-plated disc-charm with a green-agate glass bead attached.
In commemoration of Zoro’s birthday on 11 November, there will be an exclusive limited quantity of 1,111 pieces produced and released for sales for the long-wallet. This special wallet retails at the price of JPY 26,784. Pre-orders for this item is currently ongoing via the collaboration project’s designated/authorised distributor Premico’s online store. All successful pre-orders are scheduled for shipping out ETA early to mid-September 2018.
