We have reported previously of the many different merchandise collaborations involving browser and mobile game “Touken Ranbu –Online–” with various fashion apparel brands, accessories or stationery items. This time round, we bring news of the popular game’s latest tie-up – with the long-standing Japanese osake brewery Sankan Shuzo Co., Ltd, a family-run brewery based in Kurashiki City in Okayama Prefecture with 210 years of sake-brewing history behind it.

The character/sword selected to be based for this round of collaboration is the charismatic tachi (long sword) ‘Shokudaikiri Mitsutada’ once owned by famous warlord and daimyo Masamune Date; then ownership later changed hands to the ruling Tokugawa Clan and remain to present days a cherished treasure and historical artefact under the archival care of the Tokugawa Art Museum in Nagoya Prefecture. The reason for pairing up this particular sword/character with the Okayama-based brewery is due to the very fact that the swordsmith who created this sword hailed from the old Bizen region – which is geographically, Okayama Prefecture in present days.

For Japanese sake fans and enthusiasts, the more important reason for this pair-up could be due to the character of Kurashiki sake – the brews from this region carry a particular rich, full-bodied depth of flavour – setting it uniquely apart from the lighter and drier styles of sake from other Kyushu region breweries. Brewed from highly-polished quality of pure ‘Asahi’ rice grains from a carefully selected crop in a three-step fermentation process at low temperature, the resulting sake yields a fragrant yet flavourful nama-zake (i.e. pure brew) that is the signature of Sankan Shuzo Brewery’s products. This particular collaboration brew has an alcoholic content of nearly 18%. Actual amount of sake volume is measured to be around 720ml.

The collaboration sake is presented in a jet-black bottle with a classy-matt finish; the label features sleek gold decorative lines with Shokudaikiri Mitsutada printed in stylised calligraphy script together with the sword crest of the character. As a finishing touch, the packaging includes an intricate tussled knot-string based exactly like the one seen on the character’s right frontal armour plate. Fans may also be delighted to know that the external gift packaging comes in the form of a stylish black furoshiki cloth wrap with the iconic sword crest stamped on the material.

The production of the “Touken Ranbu –Online–” Japanese Sake Shokudaikiri Mitsutada is limited at 4000 bottles. Each bottle retails at JPY 3,240 (tax-inclusive) and pre-orders will be starting soon at the special online-shopping site created for this item.
