After getting a TV anime adaptation back in 2016, Ryou Asai’s Cheer Danshi!! (Cheer Boys!!) novel is getting its own live-action film. The project is now green-lit for sometime in 2019, and filming will begin later this month.

Eiga.com has confirmed the film’s two lead actors in a new report. They revealed that Ryūsei Yokohama will be starring as Haruki Bandou, alongside Masaki Nakao, who’s playing Kazuma Hashimoto. The news site also confirmed that After the Rain’s 27-year-old director, Hiroki Kazama, will be at the helm of the project.

Described as a “Youth Novel,” Cheer Boys follows Haruki Bandou, who gave up Judo after an injury, despite his family owning a dojo. But after leaving his university’s judo circle, his best friend, Kazuma Hashimoto, decides to quit as well. However, Kazuma has other plans, and he’s dragging Haruki along with him. And he’s not planning on doing more martial arts, but starting a cheer leading squad.

Right now, the staff still haven’t revealed any further details, but do expect more announcements to come along soon enough.
