Popular browser and mobile game “Touken Ranbu –Online–” teams up once again with fashion eyewear retain chain JINS and will be releasing the 3rd batch of collaborative characters-image spectacles. Similar to the previous two rounds of collaboration, eight new pairs of spectacles specially designed based on the image and signature colours and emblem motifs of eight selected touken danshi (lit. ‘sword warriors’) will be in the line-up.
Each pair of spectacles will come with its very own character-specific lenses-cleaning cloth in the character’s colour, with the character’s sword crest. They will also be encased in their very own uniquely-designed eyewear case. We take a look at the detailed designs for all eight characters’ image spectacles!
Tsurumaru Kuninaga – an elegant pure-white frame patterned with Tsurumaru’s signature gold chains: frailty that belies a surprising ferocity!
Kashuu Kiyomitsu – the first half of the pair of swords owned by the famous First Division Captain Souji Okita of the Shinsengumi with its passionate red frame patterned with stylish red-and-black checks
Yamatonokami Yasusada – completing the pair of Souji Okita’s swords, Yasusada’s image-spectacles come in the pale blue that is so iconic of the Shinsengumi’s haori-jacket uniform image
Hyuga Masamune – this tanto (i.e. short sword/dagger) looks like an elegant boy-scout in his deep red-with-grey uniform and is famed for his penchant for preserved plums, hence the charming plum blossoms design on the inside of the spectacle’s frames
Heshikiri Hasebe – nothing like the elegant purple stylishly speckled with gold along its frames is as befitting the proud and loyal sword warrior that had historically belonged to first the warlord Nobunaga Oda; then the great Kuroda Clan
Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki – the bright orange chosen for the spectacle’s frames, patterned with the iconic waves that signifies the burning adventurous spirit of this sword that once belonged to Ryoma Sakamoto
Hotarumaru – the legendary sword of Kumamoto’s Aso Shrine has his image-spectacles frame in a dazzling deep-green that fades gradually out to a pale lime yellow/green is exactly like the image of beautiful fireflies flitting about lighting up the night with their wane twinkling lights
Doudanuki Masakuni – this other sword that hailed historically from the Kumamoto region was made for the sole purpose of battle, hence its befittingly practical and no-nonsense black frame; spiced up here and there with a few stylish touches of gold patterns.
