Back in 1967, legendary mangaka Osamu Tezuka (Astro Boy) introduced us to the supernatural manga, Dororo. Over 50 years later, MAPPA and Tezuka Productions are once again adapting the classic into a brand new TV anime! And now, its staff have finally revealed a new PV, giving us a first look at this modern take at the classic series.

Aside from the new PV, they also unveiled a new key visual which promises this modern adaptation will be quite bloody:

Rurouni Kenshin’s Kazuhiro Furuhashi is directing, while Attack on Titan’s Yasuko Kobayashi is writing the scripts. The story’s setting is during the Muromachi period, in the 1470’s after the Onin and Bunmei wars. It follows a man known as Hyakkimaru, who is missing 48 body parts, which 48 monsters stole. To exact his revenge, he takes a fake body and sets out to kill each and every one of the monsters and also take back his body parts.

The classic manga previously received a 26-episode black-and-white TV anime back in 1969. As for the source manga itself, Tezuka launhed it back in 1967, and has been circulating for over 50 years now.

So, what do you guys think of this Tezuka classic getting a more modern touch from Mappa?
